Ornamental aluminum is constructed from standard, extruded tube then fastened into panels to produce an attractive, strong fence.

Because ornamental aluminum is made of rust-resistant aluminum, it is virtually maintenance free. Aluminum is ideal for outdoor applications because it doesn't rust or corrode.

Aluminum is a long life product with very little maintenance required. Just hose it off once or twice a year – that's it.

In addition to its maintenance-free properties, ornamental aluminum is also very strong. Aluminum is a miracle product – it's light but very strong. It has some give, so if something hit it, the object would be deflected.

Most aluminum fences are fastened together with stainless steel fasteners, while some are welded. Mechanical panels have more flexibility to adjust to the terrain.

Like ornamental steel, aluminum has several different finishes available. Aluminum does not rust, so finish choices are based more on attractiveness and fade resistance. Like ornamental steel, aluminum finishes are available in powder and paint:

  Acrylic Enamel Paint
Wet, acrylic enamel paint is sprayed on aluminum fences. The advantage of paint is that the consumer will have a wide variety of color choices, and custom colors that match existing architecture can be formulated.

  Powder
Powder is electrostatically applied to aluminum fences. Colors can be customized on larger jobs, and many powders include a UV inhibitor that helps the color last.
Powder finishes are also highly durable because they are two to four times thicker than acrylic finishes.

Paint is air dried or baked on after application, while powder coating is cured by bringing it to a certain temperature and holding it there. If the curing process is done properly, the finish becomes inert and more durable and becomes fade and graffiti resistant.

As aluminum is rust and corrosion resistant, very little maintenance is required once it is installed. Like steel, if the water in the area has a high calcium content, consumers may have to wash the deposits off periodically. If the finish is scratched, it may need to be touched up. Powder-coated fence can be touched up with paint. Check our Knowledge Base for specs.

Most aluminum manufacturers offer a limited lifetime warranty, though consumers are encouraged to read the fine print to determine what features are specifically covered.
